Therapy in Pasadena, CA
Nic Oliva, LMFT — trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming therapist in Pasadena, CA.
A Pasadena Practice Rooted in Community
My office is in the heart of Pasadena — Suite 160 at 200 E. Del Mar Blvd, in a building my clients have come to know as the Treehouse. It's a calm, unhurried space, tucked away from the noise of the street, surrounded by greenery. People often tell me they feel the shift in their nervous system the moment they walk in. That's intentional. Healing needs a container, and the environment matters.
I've been practicing in Pasadena because I believe deeply in community-rooted mental health care. The San Gabriel Valley is home to an extraordinarily diverse population — artists, musicians, educators, first-generation families, LGBTQ+ individuals, and everyone in between. The mental health needs here are real, varied, and often underserved. I built my practice around meeting those needs with care that is affirming, evidence-based, and genuinely human.
The Southern California Therapy Collective
I'm the founder of the Southern California Therapy Collective (SCTC) — a group of like-minded therapists committed to providing affirming, trauma-informed mental health care across the LA region. We're not a corporate practice. We're clinicians who found each other because we share the same values: that therapy should be accessible, inclusive, and genuinely effective.
The collective was born out of a gap I kept seeing — clients struggling to find therapists who truly understood their lives. Queer clients who'd been pathologized. Creatives whose therapists had never set foot in a recording studio. People from religious backgrounds that most clinicians didn't know how to hold. The SCTC exists to change that, one therapist and one client at a time.
Being part of the collective means my clients benefit from a broader network of clinical consultation, peer support, and specialized expertise. When I'm working with a complex case, I'm not working alone — I'm part of a community of therapists who take this work seriously.
Who I Work With in Pasadena
My practice serves adults and couples across a wide range of experiences. Many of my clients are navigating trauma — sometimes from a single event, more often from years of complex, relational, or systemic harm. Some come in because anxiety has taken over. Others are processing grief, navigating identity, or rebuilding after the end of a relationship or a faith community.
A significant portion of my practice is devoted to LGBTQ+ clients — people exploring gender identity, coming out, navigating family rejection, or simply wanting a therapist who gets it without needing a tutorial. As a queer therapist with specialized training in LGBT Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles, I bring both lived understanding and clinical depth to this work.
I also work extensively with creative professionals — musicians, artists, writers, and filmmakers. Before I became a therapist, I worked in the music industry, including several years at MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy. I understand the particular pressures of creative life in a way that most therapists simply don't.
